  • Great Dairy App, terrible voice transcription

This app have anything you can ask for in terms of diary keeping. however, when you pay for the premium subscription, the voice transcription service is complete junk. The transcription is with zero punctuation marks and oftentimes misheard things. not recommended if you want to keep voice memo and it’s even worse than default Apple dictation

I love Day One. I converted from handwritten to digital journal 2 years ago and I have fallen in love with it. The ability to use across platforms (iPhone, MacBook Pro, etc.) is super handy. Also the ability to have multiple journals (for various purposes/needs) helps me to organize my thoughts. And the various means of tagging makes it infinitely searchable, which is useful for looking back, and also for spotting themes etc. Love this app and highly recommend it!

I absolutely love this extremely user friendly app. I believe everyone has feelings inside that are necessary to get out. Sometimes, I have thoughts that absorb my energy without any options to vent. This app provides me the opportunity to vent, analyze, dissect, and offer me a perspective I never considered. This is stress relief, therapy, and/or a friend on a page. Oh yeah, did I mention it’s FREE for the basic! Highly recommend it.

This app has been wonderful. I love how you can have multiple folders. I have split up my daily journaling and bible studies into 2 different folders and it has been game changing. It is super user friendly as well. I am looking into paying for the year so I can have it on my Mac and iPhone. I would recommend this app to anyone looking for a journaling app!

And I Love the design, simple, clean and seems to be actively maintained and updated.
  • Good App, But Needs Better Formatting Options

Day One is a solid journaling app with a clean design and great features, but it’s frustrating how limited the formatting still is. You can’t change font colors, and the only highlight option is a yellow that doesn’t fit every style of entry. With the subscription price going up, it feels like basic customization should have been added by now.
  • One of my very few subscription apps

April 2025: I continue to use Day One, every single day. I use it for many things beyond journaling…including making notes during phone calls, capturing text from other apps (such as Whoop AI chats) into their own journal, etc. Earlier: Day One remains indespinsable for me, both for journaling personal thoughts and for recording by text and photographs various projects whether it's fixing things around the house, working on my Jeep or even documenting w/ pictures product defects (or product excellence) for ratings, etc. Continues to improve regularly, which is why it is one of my very few subscription apps.
  • A staple for more than a dozen years, but I’m getting wary and looking around

I use this app probably more than any app I’ve ever purchased besides 2Do. It’s a page-one-on-my-homescreen staple. But I’m side-eyeing the direction it’s going in, starting with the needlessly clumsy interface overhaul that turned viewing On This Day (probably my favorite feature) from one tap to multiple taps that are so unintuitive that more than a year later I still stumble over the order. I’ve got the OTD widget, which ostensibly should cancel out that problem, but half the time I tap on it opens the app, jumps to OTD and then immediately jumps out of it. And now it’s adding a new tier and more upsells for things I absolutely do not want. I realize every developer has to look like it embraces AI even though people vocally cannot stand this stuff but I do not need a chat bot in my journal. I wonder if anybody does, especially for $75 a year. I assume the feature bloat, interface musical chairs and upsells (and bugs — currently dealing with an obnoxious one that re-downloads and re-adds a photo whenever I move it around an entry) will continue and increase, and while I have a lot of time invested into this journal, I’ve always kept that data in other formats in case it all goes south. That day isn’t here yet, but I’m looking around at the competition for the first time since I purchased Day One years ago.
  • Not exactly user friendly

Hard to add entries and match with pictures, hard to display different viewings. just not as user friendly as I would like it to be. I mean, it's good and serves a purpose, i just think better options and more intuitive display and entry options would be nice
