  • Great app, would like a few more features

I really like this app for planning routes, the random route generator is great. I also like combining with the webapp. Might be the best of all the route tracking apps. Would love a few enhancements: 1) the map could be more detailed when zooming(stores, gas stations, seems like zooming doesn’t show these things). 2) while in guidance mode, after starting a route, the view of the route is too small, obscured by a large black box with a direction indicator, I’d love to have different views to cycle through or to disable some screen elements with voice commands. 3) Difficult to operate with gloves
  • Please add night or dark mode

I used this app way back when it was first developed and loved it but deleted after one of the updates made routings go to the highways and wouldn’t recalculate in the direction I was going and continued to say please make a u-turn. Well I am back and like the new app and the only issue is being blinded by the app at night. Please please add dark mode or night mode because a lot of us love riding at night and this not only annoying but dangerous.

I recently took a 5000 mile motorcycle trip from Alabama to Arizona and back. I considered several apps to use for planning this trip and settled on Calimoto. This app did an acceptable job of generally getting me from one point to another, but it is lacking in many ways. The route that it would choose was not particularly "motorcycle friendly." It supposedly finds good motorcycle roads, but it often confuses curvy roads for good motorcycle roads. It would direct me around a town instead of through the town because the route around the town was more curvy. But the route still had traffic lights and intersections. All it really did is take me on a longer path, but not necessarily a motorcycle friendly or fun path. It would also direct me to roads that were closed. The app knew that these roads were closed because there was a symbol on the map that indicated they were closed. So why did it send me there? The information it provided was often inaccurate. Specifically, the speed limits were almost never accurate. It would be better if it did not show speed limits at all. And locations of services such as gas stations were not accurate. I spent a lot of time in west Texas where gas stations and service are sparse. The app identified several gas stations that turned out to be closed or non-existent. This is a big deal in places like west Texas when you really need to find a gas station. There were a few instances when I had to drive through big cities. The app does not do a good job of directing you as far as what lane to be in or what exit to take. This is something that more mainstream navigation apps do well, and I do not necessarily expect Calimoto to be as good as Apple or Google maps, but it still made things difficult. One thing I like is how you can save routes. I would begin each day and open the app and simply choose my planned route for the day without having to plug in my destination and points of interest. That makes it nice and quick when you are ready to go. But even this had its problems. Sometimes I would tap the "start navigation" button and it would tell me that navigation required a premium subscription, even though I have a premium subscription. I would have to close out the app and then restart it, and then it would work properly. This is not a huge deal, but it was annoying and added time to me getting on the road. Other times a prompt would come up asking if I wanted it to "automatically avoid" something. What was it going to automatically avoid was not clear, because it did not say. I still do not know what it was asking. Overall, I do not recommend this app for what I used it for. I would look elsewhere.
  • Hard to navigate

Was hoping this would be a good alternative but for the price I’ll stick with Google Maps.. if it was simpler to set up a round trip it would be good but is kind of janky to plan a trip on the app.
  • Based on what I could do

This review is completely based upon what I was able to do in the app. I downloaded the app took a look at it and was ready for a test run for my next ride. The day came and we plotted out a route using the app, mind you it is one we ride frequently but I wanted to see how the app performed. Once I got the way points in and we were ready to take off I hit the start route button and nothing. Well not nothing, exactly. It took me to the screen to sign up for an $80 subscription. I am sure there was like a X amount of days before you are charged thing, but how many people forget to cancel before that time. Then you are out $80 for app that may or may not be good. Well, I don’t do that. Want to limit my access at first, cool, but you could easily set it up where you get 2-3 rides to check it out and then require the subscription. I don’t even have a problem paying for a sub if the app is good and the money is used to maintain the app. What I am not going to do is give money to something I can’t even test first. So based on my user experience of saving $80 and bot being able to use the app at all, you get 1 star.

This app helps me find ways but otherwise I likely wouldn't find it and it keeps me on track as I'm riding.
  • It’s ok

It’s an ok app. Not worth the premium price tag. REVER is better all around in my opinion.
  • Good App but needs some improvements

App is great for planning and tracking rides, but there is a bug when you end a ride. It always says there was a problem ending the ride and then asks me again if I want to end it. Ultimately, it ends up creating a duplicate of the ride. Not a big deal, but frustrating. Biggest issue I have is with the navigation. It doesn’t list the name of the street for the next turn. It shows the street when you are about needing to turn, but it’s nothing you can plan on. Doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to show the street name of your next turn.

I would look elsewhere. Purchased the premium for a year, haven’t been able to login. Contacted customer service and the solution was for me to purchase another subscription, then they could help with a refund. Why not just refund me?? Anyways, I’ve been ripped off by this company. I’ve gone with RISER, I highly recommend them.

It’s a great app. I even use it to track car rides. Love the details.
