I use Speak as the baseline for self-teaching a new language. I love the instant feedback with speech and the hands-free review option so I can learn during my commute. One thing I’ve noticed was the speech recognition between different languages. It was great with Spanish. However, somewhat poor when using hands-free using my car’s audio. Korean seems to be poor on all fronts. It had a hard time recognizing simple sounds like “pyo” 표. I had to restart it multiple times until it got it. Second thing was Korean’s Quick Learn introduced phrases they never taught and it had no audio pronunciation to go with it. I thought that was weird. And I’m not sure if there was a change to how reviews worked but Korean introduced everything in a Unit instead of only the things you’ve just learned up till now. I didn’t have a problem with reviewing in Spanish and really used it a lot! Review only for beginner Spanish and Korean modules.

you literally only get ONE lesson for free and have to pay to pretty much use the whole app. I expected an option where u can pay to have no adds, unlimited content etc, but the only way we can learn a different language is to pay for it entirely?? lame asf. Id rate 0 stars if I could
  • good but i had a suggestion :>

Thought this was great at first, but a deeper dive has shown that the app processes your responses super slowly and you end up having to say a word multiple (7x-10x) to get it to register. You end up having to say something in a very heavy American accent to be recognized as correct. Please take the money I threw away on this app to improve the speech recognition processor so that your customers can actually learn from this app. The lagging is super frustrating and makes me want to stop learning.

I used to use Duolingo, thinking it would help me during traveling and talking to my family, but it never did anything really. All Duolingo did was help me with simple words and since I usually remember by saying something out loud, speak helped really me. It’s a really good app if you’re looking for something easy and quick to know. Hope this helped!
