  • I like but…

I do enjoy the use of the app and that has been helpful in the campaigns that I’ve been involved in with it. However, I have lost access to several of my purchased content for no discernible reason and every attempt to recover, it has resulted in failure. I have tried going through the D&D Beyond support options however I have heard nothing back, and I still have not gotten access to any of my content.

It’s nice to have the reference material on your phone - until you realize that you DON’T have the reference material. You need to pay for all the D&D books yourself just to access basic information that you need for a character. Just use a free website like D&D wikidot.
  • Less Than It Should Be

I like the D&D Beyond website and for some reason I’ve always thought that the native app should be at least as good as the website, if not better. However, while I use the app and I enjoy it, it’s really just a very pale shadow of the website. It’s practically useless for use in remote online D&D game sessions. Navigation in any books you buy or use in D&D Beyond is less intuitive than it should be, and if you’re trying to use it as a reference, switching between books can be a bit of a hassle. The search functions are meh. As often as not, it feels like its actual purpose is to be an advertising platform trying to get you to buy more books instead of innately focusing on the books and resources that you already own and have access to. I use it as a secondary resource to access information or character information, but it’s almost always worse than using your browser to access the website. But it has potential, and I have hopes that someday they’ll make the app as good as it could- and should- be.

  • WotC Continues to roll Nat 1’s

WotC continue to show their greed with the new drops system. It was never about the fans and making a better game. From no longer allowing players to buy single subclasses or races, the OGL debacle, the Pinkertons, and now their new Drops mechanic. I haven’t bought a new book or official mini from WotC in years and it sucks because this used to be something so special to my friends and me. DnD Beyond was the last thing I could use so I could content share but, with this, my group and I are looking at other ttrpg’s that aren’t constantly trying to remind us we’re just a dollar sign to them.
