  • I have to echo the other thoughts on here

I’ve been using 1P since its earliest days (version 2?) and i have to agree v8 is a disaster. i’ve had most of the experiences reported here, and I have been unable to get the Safari extension to work *at all* since Sonoma. (i just tried again this morning, updating to the latest versions of everything, uninstalling and redownloading the safari extension, removing the “1P for SafarI” app….none of the instructions provided either within the app or in this review thread by 1P employees actually work as described.) if i weren’t so cynical i’d say this is a result of AI slopcoding, but “tinkerification” seems more likely - 1P 8 doesn’t do anything that previous versions didn’t do, but it doesn’t work well, does things worse or not at all that previous versions did well, and makes arbitrary UI changes that i can’t believe anyone asked for and don’t improve the product. can you resurrect v7 and make it compatible with later OS releases and just stop tinkering for tinkering’s sake? i used to recommend this to everyone but i can’t anymore.
  • Terrible user experience, don’t recommend

It sometimes refuses to unlock, sometimes I have to restart safari to make it work. Unacceptable, especially knowing that it works perfectly in Chrome. Question to 1Password management and developers, why do you hate desktop Safari users so much? Or do you think if you ignore Safari the problem will go away?
  • New Version - Same Failure to Work

Yet again a new version of 1Password for Safari installed itself on my Mac, and yet again it refuses to work, not even showing up in webpage User Name fields. Major failure for usability - must be time to find a new password manager.
  • Inexcusable Defects

    1

One release after another, new, critical defects emerge. Last month, the extension wouldn’t fill passwords on most sites. This month, the extension hangs on opening (Safari on MacBook Pro) or decides it can no longer work and must be deleted and reinstalled. And the defects in the apps themselves (OSX, iOS, iPadOS), not just the browser extensions, are just as bad. All this from a software house whose products were born on Apple. They must be vibe coding now.
  • Needs a rework

It quits randomly quits working. Having to reload the extension almost daily. I don’t think this bit of code ever got out of beta.
  • Still Unreliable After All These Years

There was an update for this app today that got me to look at the page for the app and the top review is from multiple years ago mentioned how unreliable the app is. At least three years later and things haven’t really changed. I would not be surprised if part of this is nature of Safari itself but I have other browser plugins that I have no issues with that operate on similar principles that I have no issues with in Safari. My main gripe is that the plugin has *a lot* of issues recognizing when 1Password is already unlocked. Much more often than not it is just easier for me to open 1Password, find the relevant credentials and copy and paste them in myself rather than expecting the plugin to pop up as expected to populate the login screen.
  • Simply does not work

Genuinely do not understand how this shipped. Why doesn’t it work? Fix this PLEASE.
  • App for Safari is Junk

The UX is awful. It competes with Apple’s password management system. Moreover, the autofill function, which should be the core functionality, works terribly. It’s effectively impossible to use the browser extension to log in, which should be the whole point. And worse yet, half the time when creating a new password via the browser extension, it doesn’t save it properly!! Come on guys, for this fee structure, you have to get it right. If you can’t I will certainly consider changing to another platform.
  • Ridiculous RAM usage

    By autowarp
The 1Password Safari extension starts using up to 12 GB of RAM periodically, causing my computer to lag VERY noticeably. I’ve restarted my computer and reinstalled the extension three times, and each time, it happens again. Having to use Universal Autofill for every website when it doesn’t even work universally and having to pull up 1Password, search for the item, copy the password, and paste it back into the website is extremely frustrating. According to other users, this has been an issue for months, and nothing has been done about it. It’s probably a good idea for me to cancel my subscription and switch to Apple Passwords at this point.
  • Latest version is awful

You absolutely destroyed the app with your latest update. I have to manually unlock it everytime my computer goes idle - it never auto fills anymore…
