Description

Prompt 3 is our #1 fully-native terminal emulator for Mac, iPhone, iPad, and now, Apple Vision Pro! Yes, with one purchase, you get four platforms.  Supporting SSH, Mosh, Eternal Terminal, Telnet, and Local Shells (on Mac), you can stay connected even on the most unstable networks. And with Panic Sync, your servers sync everywhere. For terminals, this is the only app you need. NOW EVEN BETTER: • SSH, Telnet, and Local (for Mac) Rock-solid and reliable connectivity to your hosts. • Mosh and Eternal Terminal Keep your terminal open even when you get disconnected. Mosh is optimized for high-latency, low-throughput networks. Eternal Terminal is great for when you need to keep your full terminal history on a flaky connection. • Lower Price Everything is so expensive right now. So we made Prompt cheaper. Take that, capitalism. • Superfast Emulation We retooled the text engine in Prompt 3 to be up to 10x faster, including GPU acceleration, and with improved terminal emulation, you can run nvim inside tmux without breaking a sweat. • Clips Put your most-used commands and text bits into clips and access them with a single tap via Prompt’s keyboard bar. Clips can be stored globally or per-server. • Secure Enclave Authenticate with FaceID and TouchID. The keys will stay secure on your device. • Panic Sync Sync your favorite servers, passwords, private keys, and clips, between Prompt on all of your devices. • Customizable Make Prompt perfect with new themes, fonts, and a very configurable iOS keyboard. • Jump Hosts and Agent Forwarding Access corporate servers, even at the beach. • Mouse Support Use your mouse to interact with TUI-based apps that run through the terminal. AND YES, A DARK ICON. What more can we say? TAKE CONTROL FROM ANYWHERE, INCLUDING YOUR MAC AND APPLE VISION PRO. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY PROMPT 3. © Panic EULA: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

I used to use and love Prompt years ago, but for me, the only real differentiator in version 3 is the Vision Pro spatial environment (which is genuinely very cool). Beyond that, I’ve run into several issues: I’m unable to connect to many servers that work perfectly with other SSH apps I use regularly, there’s no full Nerd Font installed by default, and in some cases tmux refuses to start, reporting that “the shell is not a terminal.” I had none of these problems with other terminal emulators. I was planning to contact the support, but honestly issues like these should not have been shipped in the first place, in a commercial product. My daily driver is ShellFish, but even rootshell, which is 100% free, has none of the issues listed above. Finally, I have read the support article explaining why Panic developed their own sync service, but I don’t feel like trusting it with the private keys for critical servers, especially since they could have just used iCloud Keychain.
  • Scroll jumping makes it unusable

Apparently there was some kind of fix that was done somewhat recently and that has broken the experience completely I can’t scroll and use this app at all I need to refund if this is not fixed within a few days
  • Classic Panic, making great software!

I tried it for the great SSH app, but bought it because of the fantastic immersive environment. The attention to detail is awesome! I hope they continue to work on it, either letting you move your vantage point, adding in variations, or even new environments altogether. I’ve been using the immersive environment to work for hours with Mac Virtual Display, it’s perfect for tuning out distractions and getting things done!

I got this so that I could run Claude Code on my iPad Pro by SSHing into my Mac Studio from the couch and its working great. But that’s not even the best part. I’m really LOVING the attention to detail Panic put in when creating the immersive environment for Vision Pro! Wow! What a cool environment guys! This is incredible! The experience alone was worth the $50. And now I can run Claude Code on my Vision Pro with a bluetooth keyboard which is so cool! Now if you guys would put some effort into bringing Nova up to speed for Claude Code, I’d 100% switch over to only using Panic software.

i used to love panic. i still use transmit. but they’ve lost their polish over the years. sorry, but $10/yr or $50/life for a terminal program that has less capabilities and features than a popular open-source terminal? i spend 10 hours a day working in a terminal, give me a reason to want to use this over the alternatives. i’ll give it some stars for working, having server management, playing nice with ssh, and letting me set my own themes, but even terminal.app has more customization and features (split window) and that came FREE with the OS!
  • Nice (value) terminal that pairs great with Transmit

I’ve been using Panic apps since 2005, and they continue to deliver some great tools on macOS. Prompt is fast and straight-forward (clips are by far my favorite feature); exactly what you want in a terminal app. When paired with Transmit 5, it becomes an incredibly effective workflow for remote work. Between the two, you get a seamless combination of SSH access and file management that covers the majority of needs without unnecessary complexity and at a very good price point IMO. Rarely have I ever needed to reach out to support, but recently I did have an issue which was sent up and addressed within a couple of days. Very ‘prompt’ and responsive turn-around from their support in Portland, OR.
  • It doesn’t hold connections

It’s a fine app until you need to switch to something else then back again. It doesn’t always hold the ssh connection, and there’s no rhyme or reason. It’s really annoying if you’re working with Claude Code.
