If you need a break, solve a crossword puzzle or Name Drop quiz, and flip through a nearly endless supply of cartoons. And, when you’re on the go, save stories to access them on any device, even offline. The app is free to download. Subscribers receive unlimited access. Most current New Yorker subscribers have unlimited access to the app as part of their existing subscription. Subscribers with a print-only subscription may not have unlimited access. App subscribers have full access to the Web site, including the archive and most recent issue. Users who have trouble accessing stories can e-mail [email protected] for assistance. Non-subscribers may access the app by starting a free trial. A subscription costs $11.99 a month or $119.99 annually, and includes a 7-day free trial, after which it will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period and will state the cost of renewal. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable. Subscriptions may be managed by the user, and auto-renewal may be turned off by updating the user’s App Store Subscription settings after purchase. Payment will be charged to iTunes account at confirmation of purchase. Information about our Terms of Service & Privacy Policy can be found at http://www.condenast.com/privacy-policy.

  • The app never loads. At all.

I paid my subscription through the app and that worked fine, but then it required an update and has never been able to open since. So now I have a subscription and nonfunctional app. Was a subscriber to the print magazine for years. At least I can use the website with my digital subscription, but that doesn’t really make this app seem great.

  • Key problems

I want to love this app, but there are some key problems that make it difficult. AI voiced articles are much less enjoyable than when read by a professional. Audio was one of the main reasons I subscribed, so I feel it is very unfortunate. Additionally, the ‘Play’ section does not show your solve status. It’s so disrupting to click on archived puzzles only to see I have already solved it - or not know at a glance there is a puzzle that is partially played that I can go back to. I was hoping for just a little more care in the user experience.
  • Horrible app and bad customer service

App never leaves the loading page. It was constantly logging me out. Never recognized my active subscription; I would click on an article then would say “please subscribe.” I had to log out and log back in to fix this. Finally got tired of it and am trying to cancel my subscription, but this is where it just gets malicious. Their website page works perfectly EXCEPT the page where you click cancel. They make it extremely difficult to cancel on purpose. I found their customer service line called twice and was mysteriously disconnected. They know what they’re doing. Absolutely grimy and reputation ending to try to trick subscribers like this. Was finally able to cancel by using a different browser on my mac (vs safari on iphone).
  • Good, could be great

I have only been using the app as a subscriber for about one month. Two big gripes that I have are related to the listening features. 1) Why do I have the options to listen to articles at 1.2x, 1.5x, or 2x normal speed but only have one option to the slow down the audio at .5 speed? This is the New Yorker, not a children’s book. Who in the world can comprehend the New Yorker at 1.5x or 2x speed with any enjoyment? Please provide some additional options at around .9 or .8x speed. 2) Why do only some articles get the listening option added whereas others do not? And some articles with the listening option do not play any audio due to an error message that pops up. Overall, it’s a good app, but not on par with the physical magazine experience.
  • All the audio stories have AI narration

Wish they would let you filter to only real narrators. Also, the audio player doesn’t even work half the time and the app forgets I have a subscription. Used to be good, now super glitchy.
  • Cartoons Too Small!

Why can't you blow up the cartoons? Can't even read Roz Chast! Too tiny!
  • Apple SSO disabled

Great content — which I can’t access, because they force subscribers to use Conde Nast’s (parent company’s) single sign-on platform. An insecure website error prevents the Conde Nast SSO page from loading. Conde Nast: if you’re listening, I’ll renew my subscription when you enable Apple SSO.

I’d love to be able to save stories for lager from the main page instead of having to open each story to click save.
