  • Evernote is dead

I’ve been subscriber of Evernote since 2008 and had it not been because my last company paid for the sub, I would have left a long time ago. The app has become so bloated, and veered so far off what made them great, that it’s not worth it anymore. Plus it has one of the most annoying features ever. When there is an update to the MacOS client, it will pull focus from where you are, to the dialog box telling you there is an update. I mean, WHO DOES THAT? I could be in a very important Zoom call, or in the middle of work, and this app will pull away focus from that to tell me that there's an update. That immediately made me uninstall the desktop client. Now granted there are no direct replacements (yet) but there are applications that are up and coming and I I'm switching to one of those very soon. In fact with the help of AI, I even thought about building my own. I just wish someone at Evernote Management would help Evernote return to what made it great.
  • So buggy

I used to love Evernote, used it for 5 years, last 4 months have been awful: so buggy, keeps charging for upgrades without actually changing everything, it became a problem to use it on multiple devices even with the relevant subscription, looking for alternatives.

This app wants me to update almost every week I spend more time updating than using the app. I used to use all the time - now only to retrieve
  • Used for Over Ten Years But Stopped Due to Increased Plan Costs

I used Evernote for well over 10 years until 2026. Evernote has increasingly added tons of features that has made the software bloated and far removed from its original purpose. It increasingly ran slower and less optimally. Then, its new owners Bending Spoons changed the subscription plans once again, making them much more expensive. That was the final straw for me. I can’t recommend this product any longer.
  • Best note app

Are there other note apps? Yes. Are they better than Evernote? No. The web clipper, search, and clean layout of the design make it IMHO the best note app available. Lots of users complain about the cost increase. Me too on that. Then I figured out it was about a cup of coffee a week, and that was much less than my time trying and rejecting other apps that didn’t work as well for me. Evernote - keep going!
  • Do Not!

…download, pay for and engage with this program. Their customer service is largely AI, prices have more than tripled in the last three years (now over €200 — three years ago it was €60!), they add and add functions that nobody needs, they will bombard you with messages and news you cannot turn off, and once you are in there is basically no way out. Run and look for an alternative!
  • Never use again

I have used Evernote for 5 years consistently. They implemented a price system to allow more devices a while back and I thought it would be worth it since I used the notes for literally everything in my work. I put my trust and my faith in the system and thought it would be great for my long term use. They just locked me out from making any new notes at $99 per year. I now cannot even use a system that I have PAID for and consistently use because I need to upgrade to allow myself to use my own notes. I am done with this garbage company for pulling a fast one on their dedicated user base. This year they are now charging $250 for access to their only practically used access plan. If you want to be able to use it on other devices, and make unlimited notes, and make notebooks, then you must pay through the nose. They made a choice to screw their users and got greedy. Well stay greedy and choke on your pride Evernote. I hope you die in obscurity and your company burns to ashes.
  • Used to be so good, but gradual decline that never stops

I lived by Evernote. Now there are so many other options that do at least as well while Evernote has made their worse. Least of which is a daily update. Also really a process to download all of your notes, most likely an attempt to lock you in. I paid for an annual plan it suggested only to have it tell me that I’ve hit 1000 notes so I can’t add any more. What did I pay $150 for? For the ability to not take notes? Migrating away.

I am using this app for personal and work related notes. I was using it since at least 10 years, I was trying other apps in a meantime as well, especially when I was annoyed with some issues that Evernote had with attachments etc. But ultimately I was always coming back to Evernote, because it’s solid and overall the most stable across multiple operation systems. I will always recommend it to most of people who needs to organize their stuff into flexible “database”. And regarding the issues that occasionally pop out - which app doesnt have them? At least in Evernote they are actively patching those.
