I’ve really enjoyed taking these pictures from my father in the early 1940s. They’ve done a really good job.

  • Leaves huge 7, 8, and 9 MB JPEG files

Scans are straightforward, but the app leaves huge 7, 8, and 9 MB JPEG files, which eats device flash and iCloud+ storage. Cannot Google compress better JPEG or now let users choose modern JPEG XL (including lossless), and better yet, recompress older scans into these formats.

This is still the best app for when you need to “take a picture of a picture”

I scanned about 20 photos for a memorial, and found the results to be disappointing - blurry and washed out. I switched to the default camera app on my iPhone 17 pro, and got clearer results with better color.

I’ve used PhotoScan by Google Photos for years for capturing digital copies of photos from old photo albums. The resolution and quality is so much better than a picture of a picture! And much easier and quicker to use than a scanner. Highly recommend!

The picture scanning feature is good and removes glare well. However, you can only export one photo at a time and it always names it 000. It should be easier to save in Google Drive.
