After the most recent upgrade to the app in May 2026. It constantly hangs and I have to force a shutdown and reconnect.

  • This was a GREAT app, Microsoft ruined it

The app used to be “Remote Desktop” and it was a great app. Then Microsoft kneecapped it by removing support for RDP from Windows Machines. Why? Why *remove* a great feature?
  • Multi-monitor support not great

As expected, support for macOS from this Microsoft app is half-hearted. On the Windows version of the Windows App, you are allowed fine-grained control over which monitors your Remote Desktop uses. On this Mac version, it appears to be all or nothing - you either give over all of your monitors (“Use all monitors”) or you are stuck with using one screen. So if you have three monitors as I do, and you want to keep running your Mac apps on one while giving over the other two to your Remote Desktop PC, there is no elegant way to achieve that. It is possible to wrest back control of one of your monitors from the Windows App while it is running, but you shouldn’t have to be fighting with the app. It should just work, as it does on Windows.

The session support on Mac is a bit off. If my screen disconnects, I have to quit the app entirely to get back on. Pretty solid otherwise. Thank you!

This a terrible app. Unreliable, clunky, slow, and it falls over and leaves a mess where you have to exit it. Stupid name too just to cap it off. Unfortunately we are stuck with this garbage

Works well with Windows 11. However, when using it with Ubuntu using Wayland it freezes at times.
  • Laggy and external device mapping is broken

Finally got to log in and use, the remote connection is lagging and performs much worse than the old RDP protocol. External device mapping must be buggy because my webcams get stuck in the on position after use. Screen resolution is also buggy while resizing and had to restart multiple times to address. Overall buggy and laggy and not desirable to use.
